BREAKING OF DORMANCY OF Parkia biglobosa SEEDS IN ALIERO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KEBBI STATE.

Abstract
The study was to break the dormancy of Parkia Biglobosa Seeds to determine the effects of pre-sowing treatments on the germination of Parkia Biglobosa. The seeds were treated with sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and hot and cold water and placed in a petri-dish with net cotton wool. After that, The treatment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Nine treatments and control were replicated three times, making a total number of thirty (30) treatments of Parkia Seeds. The results indicated that Seeds of Parkia biglobosa treated with H2SO4 at 10 and 15 minutes of exposure gave the highest germination percentage of 100.00%. The least germination percentage is 13.33% in seeds soaked in hot water at 100 oC for 20 and 40 minutes, respectively. It was concluded that Sulphuric acid treatments were found to be effective and more suitable for P. Biglobosa, as it gave the highest germination percentage in the studied species. However, concentrated sulphuric acid H2SO4 is recommended as the most effective method of breaking dormancy for seeds of Pakia Biglobosa.
